Africa's Child by Maria Nhambu

Africa’s Child is told through the eyes of a biracial girl growing up in an orphanage in East Africa. When we meet her at age five, she has no idea of her identity or family of origin, much less her tribe. We watch her face challenges and grow as she makes her own way through her love of learning and dance. This compelling coming of age story deals with issues of farce, abuse, abandonment, love and loss.
Born in Tanzania, Nhambu (sh prefers to be know n by her Sukuma Name) sustained her spirit through dance, and kept alive her dream of further education in the United States. There she created the popular workout based on African dance (Aerobics with Soul®). In Africa’s Child, the first book of the Dancing Soul Trilogy, Nhambu tells her story from birth to her departure from Africa. © 322 pages
